All training is endorsed by the Training Accreditation Council of Western Australia and is conducted at XLT's Underwater Welding and Training facility, which is fully equipped with commercial dive gear as would be expected in an offshore operation.
And XLT's Underwater Welding and Weld Engineering Training is customised, competency based and self-paced.
Some 10 years ago XLT recognised the need to be able to achieve underwater welds to a dry weld standard, at significantly reduced cost and effort.
Traditional methods had required underwater structures being dry-docked for welding repairs, effecting productivity, conducting wet welding which resulted in inferior strength welds, or creating prohibitive and expensive hyperbaric chambers to achieve dry conditions for welding.
XLT was awarded a grant to develop an innovative underwater welding technology, which is now known as "Nepsys" and is marketed by Neptune Marine Services, but XLT remains the only training provider anywhere in the world capable of delivering the required training.
